Data Sources#
Current status#
National datasets were used to understand the typical building construction materials used within each country. Where possible, information on the typical construction materials were recorded separately for urban and rural settlements at the subnational level. Where national statistics were unavailable ged4gem was used.
The table below summarizes the reference national statistics used in the exposure model development for South America and the approach followed in each case.

Potential future improvements#
Argentina: Detailed information on the establishments with each geo-referenced with lat-lon and including the economic activity became available in September 2022: https://datos.gob.ar/dataset/produccion-distribucion-geografica-establecimientos-productivos. Additionally, there was a new housing census conducted in 2022 that will be available shortly.
Bolivia: Detailed information on establishments became available in the second semester of 2022 in the SEPREC: https://siip.produccion.gob.bo/repSIIP2/formSeprec.php.
Brazil: Results from new housing census from 2022 will be available in the next year.
Ecuador: Results from new housing census from 2022 will be available in the next year. DIEE 2020 is also now available to update the commercial and industrial exposure.
