North Korea#

There is limited data available covering the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). Information regarding the population and housing were inferred primarily from:

  • Population Census (2008)

  • Socio-economic, Demographic, and Health Survey (2014)

Since the publications are relatively out-of-date, the population was increased from the 2014 values to 2021 values using the United Nation’s World Population Prospects.

Non-residential data (i.e., covering industrial and commercial occupancy classes) is essentially nonexistent. Therefore, values were inferred based of the latest available estimates from the International Labour Organization.

South Korea#

The primary data sources for the Republic of Korea include:

  • KOrean Statistical Information Service (KOSIS)

  • Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT)

  • Population and Housing Census (2020)

Data is available online through the KOSIS Statistical Database, with most relevant statistics available annually.
